LGBTQA++

Working with LGBTQA+ individuals focuses on providing a safe, affirming space to address the unique challenges they face as individuals and as part of a historically oppressed community. The primary goal is to help people live authentically and in alignment with their true selves. This work is not about diagnosing a "problem," but rather about offering support, understanding, and resources.

Gender-Affirming Care
This involves supporting individuals through their transition, which may be social (e.g., changing names, pronouns, and presentation) or medical (e.g., hormones, surgery). This work directly addresses gender dysphoria, the clinical term for the significant distress a person can feel when their gender identity doesn't align with their sex assigned at birth. My role is to help individuals understand these feelings, cope with the distress, and explore pathways to affirming their gender, which can also include writing letters of motivation for legal documents such as a name or gender marker change on a birth certificate.

Recovery from "Conversion" Attempts

"Conversion therapy" refers to harmful and unethical practices that attempt to change a person's sexual orientation or gender identity. Therapy for survivors of these practices focuses on healing from the trauma, addressing internalized shame, and rebuilding a positive sense of self.

Supporting Families

Providing support to parents and family members is a critical part of the process. Family support is a significant factor in the mental health and well-being of LGBTQA+ individuals. Therapy helps families understand new terminology, navigate their own feelings, and learn how to provide unconditional love and acceptance to their loved ones. This support helps create a positive environment where individuals can thrive.
